Choosing the right Wedding Photographer for you

Many Couples are unsure as to the questions they should ask when meeting a photographer for the first time.
To help you I have listed some guidelines and questions.

Look at samples of their work and check to see who will be taking your pictures on the day.
Check out their range of albums and other products offered and be clear about whats included in the price.

Price will always be an issue, but dont let price alone put you off. At the same time, be realistic.

How much experience does the photographer have.
How many Weddings have they done, and are they
Full time or Part time. In their defence, Part timers may well be up and coming talented photographers, after all, most of us started this way, but try to assess how passionate they are about their business, and if they have an eye for a good shot rather than someone just hoping to make a bit of extra money on the side.

Do they have any formal training and do they belong to a professional Body such as the SWPP, BPPA, MPA, BIPP or RPS. (this can always be varified on their websites). We recommend they belong to at least one of these organizations.

Ask about their approach
and assess whether they are just 'taking pictures' or trying to capture 'beautiful images' showing emotions, details, style and beauty.

Ask about their style. Most photographers today will offer a mixture of styles but some offer more flexibility than others and what they tell you should be backed up by the images they show you.
To make things clearer for my own potential customers I have divided my shots into 'Documentary style' and 'Staged shots'. Both are equaly as important in my opinion, and help give a great overall picture of the day.

Do they retouch and enhance ALL the images and how many images could I expect to see from my Wedding?
Retouching makes quite a big difference to the quality of the images you will be getting to see and reflects in the price you pay. Dull, lifeless pictures will not do your wedding justice.

As well as their photographic work, assess whether you 'Like' the photographer.
You will usually be spending a lot of time with them on the day so it is important you have a good relationship.

Are they insured and hold Public Liability insurance?

Below are a few more questions you may like to ask the photographer in order to decide if he or she is the right person for your Wedding.

Do you carry a 'spare set' of camera equipment to each wedding?
Can I have my images Black & White?
How long will it be before I see my pictures?
How long before I receive my album?
Do you offer a discount for mid-week weddings and 'out of season' weddings?
Do you travel and if so, what are your fees?
Do you offer smaller versions of the albums suitable for parents and friends?
How can I order extra copies of photos?

Of course if you want to ask ME these questions and like the look of my work then I would be happy to hear from you. To find out more about our Wedding service go to Weddings and for a quick introduction to my work, please go to my Slideshow
