A photograph is more than just a picture! It’s a reminder of the people you love, the person you are, or a moment you never want to forget.

Deciding on a Photographer

When planning a Wedding and consequently, deciding on a Photographer -everything can seem sooo confusing!!  here is one question you may be asking yourself -                                                                                                                                                                                               Why do some Photographers charge next to nothing for their services and others charge thousands?

Good question – the answer - not all Photographers are the same – far from it.

Some photographers invest huge amounts of their time and money into their equipment, their training, their research, their website etc and of course the amount of time they are willing to spend with you, not just on the day, but just as important, preparing for the day and the time spent working on your images and album.

Others will just be doing it as a hobby or just getting started in Photography and so need the experience.  Attending a few seminars and watching a few you tube videos will be no match for someone with years of experience and many, many weddings under their belt.

Generally speaking you will be ‘getting what you pay for’ but it’s definitely worth investing some time into researching a number of different photographers, to see what they offer and see what appeals to you.

Camera equipment, computers and software can be a BIG expense for a photographer. Despite the fact that film has all but disappeared, this has done little to save the Photographer any money.

Cameras, lenses, lights – these can all cost thousands, especially when most photographers worth their salt, carry around a spare set of everything. It’s worth pointing out that a camera and lens costing £500 will never be able to do the job of a Camera and lens costing £5,000 - no matter how good the photographer.

How your pictures are presented to you will also effect the overall cost.  Albums can cost from a few quid to many hundreds of pounds. Of course you can save a few quid by ordering your own  online but it’s not going to be a patch on a professionally designed , hand built album crafted by men and women who do this for a living. A Wedding costs many thousands of pounds – do it justice by spending a few hundred pounds on preserving its memories.

It all comes down to how much you value your photography, and of course, how much money there is in the budget. Don’t forget though, most of the thousands spent on your wedding (not to mention all the time planning it) will very soon be gone and forgotten about, leaving just your photographers images (and perhaps a video) to remind you of one of the most special days in your life.

Of course no one wants or anticipates or expects anything going wrong on Wedding day - but life being what it is, things can, and sometimes do, go wrong. It’s always good to check if your Photographer is properly insured and has Public Liability Insurance, just in case he should fall over headfirst into the cake or accidentally knock a lit  candle onto the curtains (both have happened before) – worse still, You never get to see your pictures because the photographers computer has ‘crashed’, memory card gone missing, or swallowed by the cat.

And last, but not least, some photographers have better personal attributes than others – consider enthusiasm, artistic ability, humor, friendliness, willingness to help, present-ability to name but a few. It probably helps to look at some ‘Testimonials’ usually found on their website or Facebook page. Hope this helps!!
